Dog Cafe In Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea

Do you like dogs? I certainly do and Hongdae is where you can find the quirkiest cafes and probably the most popular in Seoul, South Korea are dog cafes. My friend and I went to Bau Haus Dog Cafe and it was a blast!

What is a dog cafe?

A dog cafe is a coffee shop where you can also hang out with dogs! I visited one of the most popular dog cafes in Hongdae which is Bau House and I’m so glad I did. If you are traveling or working abroad, chances are you might miss your pets back home or maybe you are just curious what a dog cafe is;  wonder no more…

You will be greeted by all these dogs and you get to pet them, have a picture of them and if you buy them treats, get to feed them. There’s a pomeranian, cocker spaniel, chihuahua, poodle, golden retriever, labrador, Afghan hound and even an Alaskan Malamute!

Being in the company of these dogs, I can’t help but remember my own dogs. My first dog was a dachshund and I named him Hotdog because he looked like one. My second was Basha, a mixed breed of Shih Tzu and Labrador. Both of them are gone now but their memories will remain with me.

Both of them were sweet and lovable dogs and I can’t help but miss them looking at all these dogs.

I learned that the dog cafe is not only for resident dogs but also for visiting dogs. Canine owners can also bring their own pets so they can interact with other dogs provided they abide by the house rules. Let me tell you, the dogs go nuts when a new dog arrives!

What To Do In A Dog Cafe

Once you are ready to enter the cafe, you will be required to pay an entrance fee of 8,000 Korean Won. They would let you in and you can choose your drink either hot or cold it’s your choice.

By this time, several dogs might have already greeted you upon entering the gate. The cafe is divided into two sections, the little dogs’ section, and the big dog’s section.

There’s staff who attends to the dogs and they make it sure that everything is clean and spiffy. They clean it right away if dogs have “accidents”.

They watch the dogs if they get too rowdy and word of advice, some dogs go for your drinks at the table. I think it was a husky who tried to get a taste of my drink. Other than that, they are well-behaved and well-trained.

My friend Rico and I easily spent 3 hours in the cafe without noticing it because of these adorable creatures!

How To Get To Bau House Dog Cafe

Use the subway and get off at Hapjeong Station. Get out at exit 3 and turn around like you are going to Exit 4. Just a few steps and you will see the first street and turn left. Bau House will be on the right side.

  2. I’m currently in Seoul and I miss my dog (wire haired daschund named Charlie) too much. I’ll have do stop by Bau House.
I’m just a little worried since I saw puppies on display behind glass in Busan. It felt really bad.
Are dogs well treated there ? Do they get to go out for walks ? Can they be overfed with treats or do the staff members stop selling treats when dogs have had enough?
Maybe I’m thinking too much but I’m careful not to give money to animal exploitation…
Thanks for this post! There’s nothing like dog love to comfort you ^-^

    1. They are treated very well. They do take the dogs for a walk outside. The cafe is also very spacious so they really are free to move around. If you miss your dog, it is the perfect place to go. The staff is very well trained and the dogs are well kept. Share your story here once you pay them a visit. 🙂
